Kenna - Make Sure They Can See My Face
Kenna caught my attention a few years back with their wacky video of "Hell Bent" from their New Sacred Cow album. There wasn't anything extravagant about this album, other than their overly popular "Freetime", which MTV managed to mangle to shreds via commercials, advertisements and watered down shows featuring celebrities. The same has been done in the weeks past with Kenna's latest single "Out of Control". These are the types of songs you don't realize you know, until you hear them.
Although they have great unique style, Kenna will most likely always be misunderstood, holding their sound sacred for those willing to dole out their time to fall deeper into that which is Kenna; the electronic, vocal machine they have become. But just as New Sacred Cow has done, Make Sure They See My Face will do that same. I can't seem to fall in love with this band, just fall back on their artistry and creativity forced upon me by the public.
Field Music - Tones Of Town
Whether this makes for good music to listen in a field is surely debatable, but at any rate, their music sound alikes are definately not. Field Music's fourth track "A House Is Not A Home" had me doing double-takes on my first listen. Surely, this was not Paul McCartney singing, but the similarities were striking. Not only were the vocals a blast from the past, but the old feel of music was lingering there too.
What a time warp this band has taken, in a good way of course. What has become more apparent to me as a commonality over the past year, is groups are reverting to the old sound more and more. This is apparent with groups such as The Bees and Peter Bjorn & John. Sometimes music so modern is so beautiful when mixed with the past, and that's what's been done here.
