Death Cab For Cutie Opening Tour Dates Announced

They're officially back and on stage coming to a northwestern United State near you. It would only be right if Death Cab For Cutie, the band that made the 405 actually have meaning to you, perform in their most revered portion of the US. Their first six tour dates for 2008 include Oregon, Washington, California and Nevada (yes, Nevada). Presale tickets for members of their fan club will go on sale, tomorrow 2/21/08, so make sure you're on the ball.

Death Cab will be performing music from their latest recorded album Narrow Stairs, which was announced on January 19th. A release date for the album is May 13th.

Death Cab will herald the album's release with their first live shows in more than eighteen months. They'll kick things off April 18th in their home state of WA at the Admiral Theatre in Bremerton, followed by a series of festival appearances, including Coachella 2008 in Indio, California on Saturday, April 26th and the Bonnaroo Music & Arts Festival on June 15th in Manchester, TN. Athlete: Happy New Year! Tour News, Video and Free MP3s

In an email sent out by the band on the 18th of this month, Athlete kindly sends their warm regards heading into the new year. Tied with their greeting is a little self promotion to get you to sign up for their mailing list. And why not, since you can check up on their tour dates and any other news you may not be aware of. However, if you're not one of the lucky few who are anywhere near Leicester University or Hull University, you will most likely not be seeing Athlete any time soon.

If you DO want to listen to their free MP3s of "It's Not Your Fault" and "Tokyo (Metal Box Remix)", you will need to enter some info on this page. You won't recieve anything if you unclick on the little boxes on the bottom, which defaults a checked box. But I can't say I've been getting spammed out of my mind by them, so it really couldn't hurt.

Also, if you aren't aware, Ian Archer is an ex-Snow Patrol band member on tour to support Athlete's show. From the email:

"Secondly Iain Archer has had to pull out of the Irish dates but Kowalski will be playing in his place. Iain is in our studio at the moment recording some new tracks, I can’t wait to hear how they come out. Finally there are still a few tickets left at some of the gigs so if this is the first time you’re hearing about a new Athlete tour it’s not too late. Hurry though because it is nearly too late."
Lastly, Athlete allowed a glimpse into the first half of their tour, which began in 2007. You can check out their progress in the video below.

Limbeck Is Back

Limbeck may have never been missing from your catalogue, but its time you've been swoon by the country/rock foursome. Growing up from their first album back in 2003, Hi, Everything's Great may not have stunned the world, but their persistance has paid off with their release of their self-titled Limbeck in early 2007. Capitalizing on the good-natured simplicity of singing, Limbeck come together nicely to sing about ordinary, every day moments. Blending styles from The Beach Boys, Wilco and Tom Petty all in one, listening to Limbeck is like listening to country, but really not. These guys are good natured and deserve every speck of attention doled out in the last 5 years.

I particularly enjoyed the lyrics to Bird Problems.
