When You're Down, NMOY!

In case you're wondering, that acronym stands for Nightmare of You and has nothing to do with loud, nightmarish music. In fact, NMOY may be the most uplifting band I've ever listened to. If you haven't listened to this NYC bands' first self-titled release Nightmare Of You, then you're missing out.

Three years later, after touring the country over, NMOY is back with (a) Bang, their fabulous five song follow-up.

NMOY makes feel-good music. If you're in a bad mood, throw these guys on and the mood will be lifted. They're a personal favorite of mine, of course, which is why they made my first official post. Why so? The lyrics are honest, the peppiness is refreshing and they use a synthesizer for a few of their songs. But NMOY is mainly a playful guitar, bass with a simple drumset. The vocals and harmonics are the foundation here.

As for Bang, the EP is fantastic. It doesn't fit in with their first LP, but song such as "I Don't Want To Dance Anymore" and especially "I Was Never A Normal Boy" should fit your fancy. If you're looking for a great introduction song to NMOY, listen to my personal favorite, "My Name Is Trouble".
