Cut Copy has released one of the last EPs of their series of EPs this year from their fabulous In Ghost Colors album. The EP is called the Far Away EP, labeled after their popular 10th track and features remixes by Hercules & Love Affair, Golden Filter and others. The EP also debuts an unreleased track "Sands of Time" and we'll say this much - it would have been a great addition to In Ghost Colors. Cut Copy is at the top of their game this year.

As a late follow up to our remixes put up back in May for one of this years most electric artists, we received a few late Cut Copy remixes we'd like to add to the list. We'd like to mention particularly one from ddpesh, the Brooklyn-based duo's "sleazy-sexified electro" who christened their touch on one of the hum-dingers from In Ghost Colors, "Far Away".
As you probably know, we couldn't get enought of this album to begin with, so any remix would do the trick to satiate our Cut Copy fix for the day, but this one by ddpesh is quite tricked out in all of its 8-bit glory and is worth checking out. Since these guys may make our top bands of the year, this is worth a mention despite being a few days past. The Carson Daly Show spotlighted our favorite Aussies (sorry guys!), Cut Copy on Oct 2nd. making their premiere on US television (imagine that) performing, "Lights and Music" from their In Ghost Colours album (also on the Fifa 09 soundtrack). You wouldn't want to miss lead vocalist, Dan Whitford's sweet stash wouldn't you? We wouldn't have it any other way. If you don't know anything about this album, you may want to listen to it.

You won't find a more extensive and quality playlist from a video game than EA's FIFA. Last year we broke out a list with 50 songs from 26 countries. This year's list doesn't match last year in numbers but with 42 tracks from 21 countries, FIFA 09 surely hasn't slacked off.
Along with some wonderful and peppy tunes, this game has some vivid graphics that makes for a wonderful playing experience. FIFA 09 will be available in stores October 2008.

After Polygon Palace ran into me the other day, I quickly checked out their version of Cut Copy's "Hearts on Fire". Even though this song happens to have gone remix crazy across the web, their efforts did more than the others out there.
The Australian duo of Adam Ferns and Gabriel Crossan didn't just put in a super-heavy bass into their songs and call it quits. Winding multiple layers of out of the box clips and lyrics "about partying, job interviews, time machines, vampires... all the usual things" further distances them from watered-down techno.

Have you ever had one of those 'rainy' days where its not really raining, but you just can't shake whatever it is on your mind? Cut Copy's video of "Hearts On Fire" just about sums that up. Despite not matching the video to the song that well, its more or less interesting to see what your life would be like if you couldn't escape the rain. I mean, really... how would you listen to music while its raining all over you. Your iPod would short out, your computer would defuse itself and you would have water in your ear.

Things have not settled down with Aussie electro trio, Cut Copy, after their impressive album In Ghost Colours arrived in April. Many of the band's tour stops are either sold out or will be in the weeks to come (tour dates below).

April was the best month for music thus far this year, although the months to come hold much in store, particularly with Death Cab For Cutie's Narrow Stairs album hitting stores on May 13th. This month we were able to get lots of sneak peeks at the album, especially with the release of their Daytrotter Sessions, which we were able to hear "Talking Bird" and "Cath...".
My favorite song this month has to be Angel Pier's "Sacrifice", and although this song isn't yet available for download, you can have a listen on their MySpace page. As far as odd songs that I keep coming back to, Helvetia's "Old, New Bicycle" surprised me with the excellent guitar solos matched with the sullen vocals, yet still kept the song so laid back with an eerie summer vibe to it. Delorentos exhibited one of my favorite finds this month with "Do You Realise", which we made a song of the week.
A few albums I can't take out of my CD player/iPod are French Kicks' (check out "Said So What") latest along with Cut Copy's synth techno-rock/pop and Your Vegas' downright collossal release of A Town And Two Cities. A few others to point out in the bunch are Someone Still Loves You Boris Yeltsin's infections, yet mellow "Modern Mystery" and the whimsical group/crowd who make up I'm From Barcelona, with their song "This Boy", which is actually the song in the background on the new Chrysler commercials.
Lastly, another shout to Tokyo Police Club and Annuals, who have really made this month for me along with the Brad Melhdau Trio who's incredible jazz remake of "Wonderwall" will have me looking for more rock-turned-jazz remakes in the coming month. If anyone has any recommendations of other jazz rock songs, please pass them on. Enjoy this month's best-of.

If you think music this year sucks so far, then have a listen. Perhaps you've been missing out on that electro vibe that hits you every 3-6 months. That's the way it works for me anyway. Cut Copy is one of those groups that strikes my fancy in just the right way. After listening to Cut Copy's second full length LP In Ghost Colors in late March, I know I'll be picking this album apart throughout the year and piecing each song for a different event. It brings back fond memories of Bright Like Neon Love.
The Australian electronic groove-makers are composed of Dan Whitford, Tim Hoey and Mitchell Scott. For a first-time Cut Copy listener, the vocals may sound a bit like Modern English ("I Melt With You") with influences from Daft Punk. If you enjoy a solid synthesizer album, some poppy guitar melodies but most importantly some club-thumping electronica, this may be your best shot all year.
Cut Copy's In Ghost Colors was made available on March 22nd, but more importantly, iTunes is offering it as a free download. You if you think our version isn't up to par, we suggest you hop on it since the free download won't be available after Tuesday (4/8/08).

The group of Dan Whitford, Tim Hoey and Mitchell Scott might be best known for their ability to streamline the sound of the 70s and 80s to a modern assortment of clips and catchy beats, as was seen on their debut album, Bright Like Neon Love, but the real appeal of Cut Copy is how much they influence other musicians. The easily remixed sound of Cut Copy has been tweaked or covered by Mercy Arms, Vhs Or Beta, The Presets and many other musicians.
What In Ghost Colours promises is another sparkling effort that has already drawn attention to their re-recording of the club song "Hearts on Fire". "Lights and Music" is expected to be their first single from the album, and should hit stores by March 1.
