In case the Tom Petty sound enlightened your mood during SB XLII's halftime, or didn't, you should be happy to find out that Ontario native Jason Collett (Broken Social Scene) delivers a subtle hint of the legendary man's sound with his newest work, Here's to Being Here (released 2/5). Collett formerly outted with Motor Motel Songs (2003) and Idols of Exile (2005), but with this new album he worked with Andrew Whiteman (Broken Social Scene), Tony Scherr (Norah Jones, John Scofield) and Liam O'Neil (The Stills). In regards to the sounds of this new album, Collett said on his myspace page, "This is very much a guitar record, in the sense of it being very tasteful…that's the greatest accomplishment of this record. Recording in bigger spaces and live off the floor was the ideal I wanted to shoot for with this record. Recording this way allowed for spontaneous creations, which led to many wonderful little accidents."
