UK Pick of the Week: Birdpen

We were more than delighted to receive an EP from Birdpen, this week's UK pick of the week. Judging by the the two song single they sent us, the band has all of the nit and grit down to every detail. The song featured on this EP, "Breaking Precedent", will be their first song of their forthcoming album On/Off/Safety/Danger. It provides a nice mixture of UK pop, although it floats on the darker side of rock. "Breaking Precedent" is also impressive in the length of the song, and the wavy progression of the track winds down to a beautiful harmonic in the end.

Although there are no details of the band, they proclaim the are from 'The Village' in UK. The meaning of the band is also cloudy, but we can only predict it was born from the fusion names: Mike Bird and Dave Pen. Their site also proclaims Johnathan Livingston Seagull is part of their band, but who knows for sure. These lighthearted, creative musicians are on the brink of their first full length album (mentioned above) and have previously released three EPs over the course of 2004-2006. They include '1 in 54', 'Be Yourself' and 'Fake Kid'.
